Sydney Volpe
"Banjos, Beer (Candles), & Beautiful Souls"
About Me
Sydney Volpe is an “all-loving” human being who marches to the beat of her own drum and loves nothing more than banjos, beer (candles), and beautiful souls. At a young age, Sydney mastered guitar and immediately became determined to learn more instruments, most specifically the banjo. By the time she graduated high school, Sydney had aced her way through four years of music class, won class superlatives for “most musical” and “most versatile,” performed a song with Tyler Joseph of Twenty One Pilots, and was on her way to Belmont University in Nashville, TN. However, after one year of a great Nashville experience, Sydney decided to move back home. The summer before starting at UMass, Sydney became interested in bottle cutting and candle making. Through extensive research and trial and error, Sydney hand-made the perfect batch of scented soy candles in hand-cut, recycled beer bottles, and immediately sold all of them through Facebook and Snapchat posts. While she continues to make and sell candles, Sydney has decided to integrate her love for music, people, and candle making to provide a service like no other. Sydney Volpe is now available to book for parties, special events, and bar nights to host a candle workshop(similar to paint-bars) followed by live music for everyone to come chill out, have fun, and spread the love.
Sydney is the oldest of four in a very "sporty" family. Not to say that she doesn't love sports (she played softball and field hockey all her life), but her passions were always very different from the rest of her family. Although her and her family get along very well, she had always found it difficult to pursue her own interests and was a bit jealous of her friends who came from like-minded families. Still, she persevered. She got away from her small home-town school system and went to a tech school for high school where she specialized in Painting & Design. There, she was able to meet people who helped inspire her to be creative and do what she wants. In shop, Sydney worked hard and always got her projects done early. This is where she started to become a bit innovative with her work and started making money from it. With her new painting skills, she decided to paint her family's bulkhead and turned it into a tropical scene to fit into the back yard. Just like with the candles, she posted a photo on Facebook and ended up with 4 bulkhead painting jobs. Her shop also made signs and t-shirts using vinyl. So, naturally, she started designing t-shirts and selling them to friends and family. After wearing one to a concert and being featured on the band's Instagram, she got messages from strangers in Ohio, California, Alabama, and Missouri asking where to purchase the shirt, so she set up a little website and sold them there for a while. Since then, Sydney likes to always be creating something through learning how to do it herself and staying busy but has recently found so much fulfillment in making candles, that this creation is now top priority.
On the side of it all, Sydney is a bartender a few towns over from her own. She absolutely loves seeing her regulars everyday and meeting new people. Although not yet 21, Sydney spends a lot of time in the bars around her town going to open mics and watching bands perform (she knows all the bartenders and bouncers so they let her in with two big X's on each hand). She has become extremely close with the local music scene as well as the people who frequent the bars, and has made more friends and connections than she ever has in school or anywhere else. This is a major reason why she is expected to be successful with her candle-workshops --- she asked if people would be interested and go and she got lots of yes's! Her goal in running these workshops is to get people to come together to learn something new and listen to / play some good music. She hopes to attract some new people so that they too can experience the welcoming nature of the local bar/ music scene and the magic of coming together and working together to try something new.
